SR01 form explained: what it is, who can use it and what it costs

The SR01 form is how you ask Companies House to take your home address, signature, day of birth or business occupation off old documents on the public register. It costs £34 per document and goes in by email.

The SR01 form is the official Companies House application to remove your own personal details from documents already on the register. You pay £34 for each document you list, pay online first, then email the completed form with your payment reference to Companies House.

That's the short answer. The rest of this guide covers what SR01 can and can't remove, who's allowed to use it, how the fee adds up and what happens once it's submitted.

What is SR01?

SR01 is titled "Application to remove personal details from the public register". It's the form for individuals, so you're applying about your own details.

Companies House publishes it on GOV.UK along with a continuation page for longer applications and a list of the documents it can suppress. Address Erased is independent and not affiliated with Companies House, so everything below comes from their published guidance.

People often search for "sr01 companies house" because the form sits on the Companies House side but the process sits with you. You choose which documents to list, you pay, and you send it in.

What can an SR01 application remove?

You can apply to remove four things. Which one applies depends on the document.

WhatConditions
Home addressThe whole address or part of it, on documents on the suppressible list
SignatureYour printed name stays. Not on mortgage-related charge documents
Day of birthOnly on documents filed before 10 October 2015. Month and year stay
Business occupationOnly where stating it was required, such as on an appointment

The form works on documents, not on you as a person. If your address appears in an incorporation, an appointment and three annual returns, that's five documents. Each one is listed and each one is charged.

If you want more detail on a single item, we've written separate guides on removing your date of birth and removing your signature.

What SR01 can't do

SR01 can't remove the current registered office of a live company. You'd change that first using form AD01. It also can't remove details from documents that aren't on Companies House's suppressible list, and it won't remove your name.

For a home that was once a registered office, you list the original filing that set it, such as the incorporation. Listing the AD01 that moved the office away gets the application rejected.

Who can use the SR01 form?

Officers, people with significant control, subscribers, members and shareholders can apply, as long as the details are their own. Auditors, solicitors and bank staff who signed a company document can't.

Nobody needs a company authentication code. You confirm it's you by printing your name in Part 5, with no signature.

If you're not sure which filings hold your details, a free scan of the register lists them first. Our scan reads every filing since 2003, including handwritten paper forms, and shows results as postcode districts only.

What does the SR01 fee cost?

The SR01 fee is £34 for each document listed. You pay it through GOV.UK Pay before you apply, and Companies House rejects applications where the fee is wrong or hasn't been paid.

That's a flat rate per document, so costs climb with the number of filings your address sits in.

If you'd rather we handle the filing, our pricing is £69 for the first document and £49 for each additional one, per person, both including the £34 fee (VAT included). The full breakdown is on our page about how to remove your home address from Companies House.

How is an SR01 application submitted?

An SR01 application goes in by email to dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk, which is the quickest route. You can post it instead with a cheque or postal order.

Part 4 of the form holds three documents per page. If you've got more, you add the official continuation pages, three more documents on each. The step-by-step is in our guide on how to complete SR01, so we won't repeat it here.

Part 6 asks for a postal address for the presenter. If anything's wrong, a rejected application is posted back there.

SR01 vs changing your service address

People mix these two up, so here's the difference. Form CH01 is Companies House's "Change of details of a director", and it updates what's shown from now on.

SR01 (cleans up old documents)

  • Removes your details from documents already filed
  • Costs £34 per document
  • You list each document
  • Applies to the historical record

Changing your service address with CH01 (changes what's shown going forward)

  • Updates the address held for your role
  • Applies to the register from that point on
  • Older filings keep the address they were filed with
  • Often the first step before an SR01

For a current director, the usual order is to put a service address in place first. After that, SR01 deals with the old filings. Our guide to the director service address explains how the two kinds of address differ.

What happens after you submit an SR01 application?

Companies House checks the application against the listed documents, the fee and the form itself. If it's accepted, your details are removed from those documents on the public register. If something's wrong, it's rejected and posted back to the address in Part 6.

For individuals applying about a UK company, Companies House tells you once it's processed. We can't promise a timescale, and the usual wait is 2 to 6 weeks.

The SR01 journey

  1. Step 1Find the documentsSearch the company on the register or run a scan.
  2. Step 2Pay £34 per documentThrough GOV.UK Pay. Keep the payment reference.
  3. Step 3Email the SR01Send the form and payment reference to dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk.
  4. Step 4Companies House checks itTypical wait: 2 to 6 weeks.
  5. Step 5The register updatesAccepted documents lose the listed details.

If the home address is still your current service address in a live role, Companies House asks for a replacement. If you've resigned, or the company's dissolved, part of the address is hidden instead. A UK address then shows only the first half of the postcode, and a director's date of birth shows month and year only.

Frequently asked questions

Questions

What is an SR01 form?

SR01 is the Companies House form for asking to have your own personal details removed from documents on the public register. It covers your home address, signature, day of birth and business occupation, on documents Companies House is able to suppress. You file it as an individual, and it's made under section 1088 of the Companies Act 2006.

How much does an SR01 application cost?

Companies House charges £34 for each document you list, paid through GOV.UK Pay before you apply. Ten documents costs £340 in Companies House fees. Address Erased's own pricing includes that fee, and you get a refund on any document Companies House rejects.

Where do I send my SR01 application?

Email the completed form and your payment reference to dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk, which is the quickest route. You can post it with a cheque or postal order instead, but paper applications usually take longer to process.

Can I remove my current registered office address with an SR01?

Not while the company is live and the address is its current registered office. You change the registered office first using form AD01, then apply to remove the home address from the older filings. If the company has been dissolved, Companies House asks you to wait 6 months after dissolution.

Can an accountant or solicitor sign the SR01 for me?

The application is made by the individual whose details are being removed, and Part 5 asks for that person's printed name. Someone else can act as the presenter and handle the contact side in Part 6. Auditors, solicitors and bank staff who only signed company documents can't apply for removal themselves.

Do I need to give a new address when I apply?

Only if your home address is still your service or correspondence address in a current role such as director. If you've resigned or the company is dissolved, you don't need one. Companies House then hides part of the address instead, for example showing only the first half of a UK postcode.
