Dissolved companies
Removing your address from a dissolved company's records
You can still remove your address from a dissolved company's records. Dissolution doesn't take the filings off the public register, so the same form SR01 applies, with one extra 6-month wait in a specific case.

If you want to remove your address from a dissolved company at Companies House, the answer is yes, you can. A company being struck off ends the company, but the documents you filed stay on the register and anyone can still open them.
The process is the same as for a live company. You list the documents, pay £34 for each and send form SR01. The differences are a waiting period in one scenario and no need for a replacement address.
Does dissolving a company remove its filings from the register?
No. Companies House says information about a dissolved company stays on the public register for 20 years. It's also reviewing that period and has paused the destruction and transfer of records while it does. Older guidance mentioned 6 years, which is out of date for searching purposes.
For you, that means a company you closed years ago can still show your home address, your full date of birth and your signature. That's a dissolved company's personal details sitting in plain view, and it's the main privacy risk we see with forgotten directorships.
If you want the full picture of where addresses hide, our guide on how to check whether your address is on Companies House covers it.
A realistic example
Say Alex Morgan (fictional) set up two small companies in 2014, Northgate Studio Ltd and Kirkstall Lettings Ltd, then resigned from both within a few months and moved on. Both companies were later struck off.
Alex filed an AP01 appointment form and a TM01 termination form for each company. The AP01s show a home address in LS6, a full date of birth and a handwritten signature. Four documents, all still public, for companies Alex hasn't thought about in a decade.
Note that a TM01 usually holds a signature but not your address. The address sits on the appointment form, which is why you have to look beyond the filing that closed your role. Our guide on removing a signature from Companies House documents covers that part.
Dissolved company registered office address: the 6-month rule
If your home was the company's registered office when it was dissolved, you can't apply to remove it until 6 months after the dissolution date. This comes from the SR01 guidance. Where the company was dissolved some time ago, that wait is long over.
The other point is which document to list. For a former registered office, you list the original filing that gave your home as the registered office, usually the incorporation. You never list the AD01 that moved the office away, because that gets the application rejected.
Fictional example: Kirkstall Lettings Ltd, home used as registered office
- 11 Mar 2014IncorporatedHome address given as the registered office on the incorporation form.
- 3 Jun 2025Company dissolvedStruck off the register. The incorporation form stays public.
- 3 Jun to 3 Dec 20256-month waitNo application can be made for the registered office address in this window.
- 3 Dec 2025Earliest application dateSR01 can now cover the incorporation form.
We go deeper on this in our guide to using your home address as a registered office.
Which scenario are you in?
Dissolved company scenarios
| Can apply now? | Wait 6 months? | Replacement address? | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resigned before dissolutionHome address on your AP01 or similar | ✓Yes | ✗No | ✗No |
| Home was the registered office at dissolutionList the original filing, not the AD01 | After the wait | ✓Yes | ✗No |
| Home was a service address onlyDirector or officer filings | ✓Yes | ✗No | ✗No |
None of these needs a replacement address, because the company no longer exists and you aren't a serving officer. Where a registered office is hidden, Companies House shows only part of the postcode in most cases.
Why dissolved companies are easy to forget
Live companies generate reminders, and dissolved ones go quiet. People close a company, move house and never look again, so the filings sit there for years.
A person-level search matters here. The list you want covers every company you were ever attached to, as a director, secretary, PSC or shareholder. That's what our free scan does, reading filings back to 2003, including handwritten paper forms.
Who can apply for a dissolved company's documents?
Individuals apply for their own personal details. In practice that covers former officers, people with significant control, subscribers and shareholders (members). If you signed a document only as a solicitor, auditor or bank employee, you can't use SR01 for it.
Only documents registered on or after 1 January 2003 qualify. You can remove your home address, your signature (with some exceptions for charge documents), the day of your birth on documents filed before 10 October 2015, and business occupation in specific cases.
How to remove your address from a dissolved company's records
- 01Find every company, including dissolved onesSearch the register by your name and write down every company, with its dissolution date. Check the dissolved results, not only the live ones.
- 02List the documents that show your detailsFor each company, note the filings with your address, day of birth or signature. For Alex, that's the two AP01s and the two incorporation forms.
- 03Check the 6-month ruleIf your home was the registered office when the company dissolved, check that 6 months have passed since the dissolution date.
- 04Pay and applyPay £34 per document through GOV.UK Pay, complete form SR01 and email it with the payment reference to dsr@companieshouse.gov.uk. You'll find the detail in our guide on [how to complete the SR01](/guides/how-to-complete-sr01).
Four documents is £136 in Companies House fees. Through Address Erased it's £69 for the first document and £49 for each extra, so £216 for four, both including the £34 fee. The Companies House fee has no VAT, and our service fee includes VAT at 20%. Our full removal service handles the search, the form and the refund on any document Companies House rejects.
Questions
Does my address disappear from Companies House when a company is dissolved?
No. Companies House says information about a dissolved company stays on the public register for 20 years, and it's currently reviewing that period. Anyone can still search the company and open its old filings, including any that show your home address.
Can I remove my address from a company that's already been struck off?
Yes, in most cases. Form SR01 works on documents from dissolved companies in the same way as live ones, at £34 per document. The one extra rule is the 6-month wait where your home was the registered office when the company was dissolved.
Do I need to give a replacement address for a dissolved company?
No. Companies House only asks for a replacement address from current serving officers whose home address is still their service address. If the company is dissolved, you can skip that part of the form.
I was only a director for a few months. Is my address still public?
Almost certainly. Your appointment filing (AP01 or 288a) and your resignation filing (TM01 or 288b) stay on the register for as long as the company's record does, and the appointment form usually shows your home address, full date of birth and signature.
Can a shareholder or person with significant control apply, or only directors?
Former officers, people with significant control and shareholders can all apply for their own details. Companies House decides each application, and people who only signed documents in a professional capacity, such as solicitors or auditors, can't.
How do I find dissolved companies I've forgotten about?
Search the register by your name and check the dissolved results as well as the live ones. Name searches miss misspellings and older paper filings, which is why we run a person-level scan of every filing since 2003.
