People with significant control: which of your details are public?
Your PSC address on Companies House is the service address you give when you're named a person with significant control. It's public, while your usual residential address should stay private, unless a filing put your home in the wrong box.

If you own or control more than 25% of a company, you're probably a person with significant control (PSC). The PSC address on Companies House that anyone can read is the service address you gave, not the home address you gave separately.
That's the rule. The catch is that people sometimes typed their home into the public box, and a mistake there stays on the register until someone removes it.
What a PSC filing puts on the public register
The PSC register started on 6 April 2016, when companies had to begin keeping their own PSC register. Companies House then collected the same personal details it collects for directors, plus how you control the company.
Here's how the details split.
Public on the register
- Name
- Month and year of birth
- Nationality
- Country or state of residence
- Service address
- Nature of control
Protected
- Full date of birth
- Usual residential address
- Kept on a private record
- Shared with specified public authorities
- Credit reference agencies in limited cases
GOV.UK's guidance on your personal information on the register says most PSC information is public apart from the home address and full date of birth. It adds that a PSC who doesn't want their home shown should use a different service address. We checked the month-and-year point against Companies House PSC guidance as summarised by third parties, so read the current guidance when you file.
How an old or mistaken PSC filing can show your home
The usual residential address sits in its own box on the form. It should never reach the public record. A PSC address on Companies House turns up as a home address in three common ways:
- You gave your home as the service address, because it was the easiest thing to type.
- The company's registered office is your home, so the address shows on the incorporation and every later filing that repeats it.
- You're also a director, and an older director filing (for example before 1 October 2009) carries a home address. We cover that in our guide to director service addresses.
Changing the PSC address now only fixes the future. The old filing keeps what it said.

Which PSC forms can show an address
This table only uses what GOV.UK's list of documents Companies House can suppress states. It's a set of examples, so other forms may qualify too.
PSC documents on the SR01 suppression list (examples)
| Who can apply | Address | Signature | Day of birth | Occupation | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PSC01 (notice of individual PSC) | PSCs | ✓Yes | ✓Yes | ✗No | ✗No |
| PSC04 (change of individual PSC details) | PSCs | ✓Yes | ✓Yes | ✗No | ✗No |
| CS01 (confirmation statement) | PSCs | ✓Yes | ✓Yes | ✗No | ✗No |
| LL PSC01 (LLP version) | PSCs | ✓Yes | ✓Yes | Not stated | ✗No |
For these forms the list marks day of birth as "No". Month and year stay public. For the detail on dates of birth, see our guide to removing a date of birth.
Can a PSC apply for SR01 suppression?
Yes. The suppression list names PSCs under "who can apply" for PSC01, PSC04 and CS01. The cost is £34 per document and you pay through GOV.UK Pay before you apply, with the reference on the form. The SR01 page itself says the form is for an individual to remove their own details, and our guides to the SR01 form and how to complete it go through the steps.
One trap is the current registered office. If your home is the live company's registered office, change it first. Our guide on home addresses used as a registered office explains the order, and we can set up a registered office and service address for you as part of your application.

Is your PSC record exposing your home?
Does the PSC service address on the register match your home?
Yes: File a PSC04 to change it, then look at SR01 for the old filings.
No: Check the registered office and any director filings.
Is your home the company's registered office?
Yes: It shows on every filing that repeats it. Change it before you apply.
No: You're probably clear on this point.
Are you also a director or a shareholder?
Yes: Those filings carry their own addresses. Check each.
No: Your PSC filings are the main place to look.
You can run our free scan and we'll read every filing on your name, PSC and director, and show you the result as postcode districts only. For the full process and costs, see removing your home address from Companies House.
The separate regime for people at serious risk
There's a different route for PSCs who, or whose household, face a serious risk of violence or intimidation because of the company's activities or their link to it. If it's granted, GOV.UK says none of your PSC information appears on the public register. That's a different application from SR01, and we explain it in protecting your address when your safety is at risk.
Questions
Is a PSC's home address public on Companies House?
Not if it was given as the usual residential address on a current filing. That address is kept on a private record. It becomes public if it was given as the service address, and older or mistaken filings can still show it.
What personal details of a PSC are on the public register?
In most cases the register shows the name, month and year of birth, nationality, country of residence, service address and the nature of control. The full date of birth and the usual residential address are held back.
Can a PSC use form SR01 to remove their home address?
Yes. GOV.UK's list of documents Companies House can suppress shows PSCs as able to apply for PSC01, PSC04 and confirmation statement (CS01) filings, with the address and signature removable. The fee is £34 per document.
Can I change my PSC service address?
Yes. A change of details for an individual PSC is reported to Companies House on form PSC04. The new address applies from then on, but filings already on the register keep the old one until they're suppressed.
What if I'm a PSC and a director?
You have two sets of filings. A PSC filing and a director filing can each carry an address, so one can be clean while the other shows your home. Check both before you assume you're covered.
